Corporate Leadership Series

To improve corporate engagement at IIM Indore the Corporate Leadership Series initiative has been started inviting industry experts for guest lectures at IIM Indore to give exposure to students of EPGP, PGP and IPM program about industrial issues currently in focus and build IIM Indore’s brand in the corporate domain.

This initiative through the collaboration of Industry Interaction Cell and EPGP Corporate Interation Committee sets into motion a key development in corporate brand building of IIM Indore.

Mr. Sameer Kagalkar, an alumnus of IIM Bangalore’s Fellowship program in the Corporate Strategy and Policy area, a mentor Director for MIT School of Government Pune, Chief Academic Officer at Avagmah (a well-funded management education technology start up in Bengaluru) visited IIM Indore last week.
He delivered a talk on “Indian Politics and Business: The new paradigm” while emphasizing the emergence of triple strength leaders.

Mr. G Jagannathan, CEO, Transconn International delivered a Guest Talk at IIM Indore on December 29, 2015. The topic of the talk was Business Excellence Model. The session was organised jointly by the Corporate Interaction Committees of the EPGP and PGP courses at the Institute.

Mr. Jagannathan began the session asking the participants to list down three organizations that they think are world class. He then mentioned about the factors which make a particular organization ‘world class’. He attributed this excellence to aspects such as the culture of excellence, people centricity, business ethics and learning attitude, among others. ‘Journey of Excellence depends upon the 4 P’s namely, Passion, Patience, Process and Perseverance’, he noted. Mr. Jagannathan explained the Malcolm Baldridge Model of Excellence and the EFQM Model, which holistically evaluate companies on a scale of zero to 1000 based on scores awarded on 7 different components.

Col. (Retd.) Vinay Gupta, Head of Analytics and Operational Excellence, Wind World India Ltd. visited IIM Indore on November 20, 2015 as a Guest Speaker in the Corporate Leadership Series Lectures. This series is been organised by EPGP Corporate Interaction Committee in association with the Industry Interaction Cell at IIM Indore, who plan various guest talks throughout the year. The talk aimed to spark leadership insights in students and to give them a first-hand exposure to business challenges from the industry.

The topic for the session was ‘Monetising Big Data’. Col. Gupta explained what has recently changed with Big Data and how it has enabled individuals to change the speed of analysis and granularity. ‘Analytics is not IT. Analytics is Business’, he claimed. Real time analytics is increasingly being used to provide customised solutions and that has induced innovation. He played the song ‘Every breath you take… I will be watching you’; to symbolise that we are creating ‘signature’ every day, overtime and someone is tracking it. He also spoke about the 4Vs of Big Data- Volume, Velocity, Variety and Veracity.


Mr. Ambi M G Parameswaran, Executive Director, FCB Ulka Advertising, speaks on ‘New frontiers in changing marketing communication landscape’ on August 20, 2015.

An IIT Madras, IIM Calcutta graduate, Mr Parameswaran talked about “New frontiers in changing marketing communication landscape”. He focussed on how rapidly evolving digital media is changing the rules of the marketing game and pointed out that in today’s scenario, information sharing and awareness was more about Social, Logical and Mobile learning.

Mr Parameswaran cited examples of some of FCB Ulka’s well-known clients such as KANSAI Nerolac, Bausch & Lomb, Nivea, Amul and Oreo to give a glimpse of how companies are designing their advertisement campaigns around digital media. He accentuated his points with videos that not only described some of the successful ad campaigns that FCB Ulka has been a part of, but also the thought process in designing the campaign. Be it Oreo’s Anniversary special marketing campaign or Nivea’s tech oriented Sun screen product ad, Mr Parameswaran highlighted the importance of engaging the consumers. The talk was followed by a Q&A session wherein curious participants sought inputs from the guest regarding various nuances of marketing.


10th August 2015 – Mr. Anand Khurana, Circle CEO, Airtel

“Business is about winning minds and at the same time winning hearts”, says Mr. Anand Khurana, Circle CEO, Airtel. He gave an motivational speech at IIM Indore on August 10, 2015, sharing his academic, professional and personal life experiences.The few fortunate IIM students were lucky to hear about the key factors of success in Mr Khurana’s life which he elegantly put down as the “7 Cs to success”, namely Common sense, Confidence, Courage, Character of a go-getter and the Competence to deal with any required situation, Compassion and Charisma.
